Apple, malus domestica, better known as the eating apple or sweet apple, is a commonly cultivated fruit tree that grows in hedgerows and at woodland edges. The tree is medium-sized and hardy. The leaves are oval to egg-shaped or nearly round with a serrated edge. The upper side is dark green and slightly hairy at first, while the underside is gray from a dense covering of hairs.
The fruit has firm flesh with a mild, sweet-tart flavor. The tree's fruits are always over 3 centimeters in diameter, unlike the wild apple, which is smaller. The fruit is ready to pick in September.
The tree thrives best in full sun and prefers well-drained, deep, nutrient-rich soil. The apple tree blooms in May, with the flowers appearing in small clusters of 4–5.
