Agapanthua, Campanulatus, perhaps better known as skærmlilje, is a perennial, robust herbaceous plant. It originates from South Africa, where it grows in moisture-retaining soil and can often be seen here in meadows, grasslands and ditches where the soil is damp.
The plant is recognizable by its evergreen, slender, grass-like leaves and strong, branched rhizomes that can grow up to 1 meter tall.
The flower cluster consists of small, bell-shaped flowers in shades of purple, blue or white.
Agapanthus typically blooms in August, when the dome-shaped bud opens due to strong internal pressure, revealing a beautiful cluster of bluish-purple trumpets.
Agapanthus does not tolerate frost.
